BA 199, Business Practice, particularly described as “supervised fieldwork or internship” is an elective course that was pilot tested in the Summer Term of AY 2005-2006. BA 199 is being offered after results of an extensive curricular review of the BSBA program in 2004, which included a survey of around 122 employers/companies, indicated that the BSBA students need practical training and hands-on experience in management. BA 199 aims to provide students with an opportunity to gain hands-on, practical learning in an area of management, e.g. human resource, finance, accounting, operations, and marketing. Students intending to enroll in this are responsible for identifying and contacting any of the CBA-accredited industry partners and arranging an internship placement with them. They may undertake the internship during the summer term prior to their terminal year by working for the accredited firm over a four to five week period or a minimum of 180 hours under academic and professional supervision, usually from April to June. In 2006, a total of forty-one (41) incoming seniors enrolled in the course and had their internships from April to June 2006 with the accredited industry partner. |
